As you know, Hopkins rlainstreet lS worklng hard to establish an
identity for the downtowD. The confuslon generated by the fact
that our main street lS called Excelsior Avenue makes directing
customers, visitors and prospective businesses to hopkins a major
obstacle. But, the IIalnstreet Tasl~ ForcB has a very loglcal solution
for thls problem...chanGe the name of Excleslor Avenue from County
Road 18 to Shady Oak Road to Ealnstreetll.
On Tuesday, February 26, a meeting of all bUSlnesses along Excelsior
Avenue from County Raod 18 to Shady Oak Road and businesses along the
side streets WhlCh may be affected, was called durlng the General
Eeeting of Hopkins I'lainstreet Promotions. The overwhelming consensus
was that this was a very good idea! As a matter of fact, some
downtown businesses are already using r1ainstreet in their advertislng!
Our propos81 at this time lS that the City 0; Ho~kins change the
name of Excelsior Ave., \'[est to llHainstreetll effective l'iIay 17, 1985.
The name change would t~ce place wlth a rlbbon-cutting ceremony durlng
the culmlnatlon of our week long IlHalnstreet Days\! celebration.
Sincerely:
