INFORMATIONAL BULLETIN DATE: January 7, 198) . No. 12 TO FROM . BY Coordinators, Regions I, II, III, IV, V, and Metro Margaret Michalko, Sharon Smith Edwin Herman, Act~n~/pi2:~~ : Sharon Kelly, Fe~tributions Officer SUBJECT: Additional Information - Informational Bulletin No.7 . ^ question was raised by the Metro Regional Office regarding clarification of the following: "Dual tone requirement for sirens obtained with Federal Fnnds." Un January 5,198), I was advised by Palmer Frost, Region V, FEMA, that after checking with Mr. Messa in FEMA's National Office, that FEMA encourages obtaining dual tone sirens, however, it is not mandatory. The following is my understanding on the definitions of single signal and dual tone: Single signal - A siren that produces one signal, but has the ability to be modified to produce both the alert.and attack warning. Dual tone - Two frequencies are produced by the oiren in order to cover the human hearing spectrum. I hope this will answer questions you may have regarding dual tone sirens. - SK
