06-02-09A regular meeting of the Hopkins City Council was held on June 2, 2009, in the Council
Chambers of the Hopkins City Hall.
Present were Mayor Maxwell and Council Members Youakim, Brausen, Rowan, and
Halverson. Also, present were staff members Getschow, Genellie, Stadler, Elverum,
Specken, and City Attorney Jerry Steiner.
I. CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 7:31 p.m.
II. OPEN AGENDA PUBLIC COMMENTS AND CONCERNS
There were none.
III. PRESENTATIONS
1. CenterPoint Energy Grant Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Chief Dale Specken explained that the Fire Department had applied for a CenterPoint
Community Partnership Grant in April to acquire one or more AEDs. The Department
received a $1,400 grant to purchase an AED that will be placed at the Depot Coffee
House. Cherie Munson, of CenterPoint Energy, explained that these grants are
designed to help local Police and Fire Departments. She presented a check for
$1,400 to Mayor Maxwell.
2. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Graduation
Chief Dale Specken said that the CERT program began in 2007 when the first class
of residents was trained to assist the Fire Department in the event of a disaster.
With the 2009 class there are now more than 50 CERT team members. The
graduates received a certificate and were thanked by the Mayor and Council for their
involvement.
3. Nine Mile Creek Watershed District Presentation
Geoff Nash, Nine Mile Creek Watershed District representative, presented the City
Council with copies of a new book commemorating the 50 Anniversary of the
District. The book is entitled Nine Mile Creek Watershed District: Preserving Heritage
and Environment.

Mayor Maxwell said that the Farmers' Market will take place on Saturdays between June
20 and October 31. Council Member Youakim asked about insurance requirements for the
Farmers' Market. City Manager Getschow said that he would get that information to the
Council.
Council Member Brausen moved and Council Member Halverson seconded a motion to
approve the Consent Agenda. A poll of the vote was as follows: Council Member
Youakim, aye; Council Member Brausen, aye; Council Member Rowan, aye; Council
Member Halverson, aye; Mayor Maxwell, aye. The motion carried unanimously.
V. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Council Member Youakim moved and Council Member
Halverson seconded a motion to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned by
unanimous consent at 7:55 p.m.
