Dear John:
Since Hennepin County has constructed County Road 18 near the Hobby Acres area, it has
cut off most through traffic in the area. With this decrease in traffic in the area,
there are a number of unnecessary Stop signs that should be removed.
On the corner of Hollyhock Road and Farmdale Road is a three-way Stop. Since Farmdale
Road ends just a little ways east of the intersection, there is really no reason for
any Stop signs at that location. At Hazelane and Wayside Road there is a two-way Stop
for east-west traffic. Since Hazelane does not connect onto Highway 7 anymore, there
is no need for any Stop signs at that intersection.
On Hazelane at Farmdale Road there is a Stop sign for southbound traffic; on Althea
Lane at Wayside Road there is a Stop sign for northbound traffic; and on Hollyhock
Lane at Wayside there is a Stop sign for northbound traffic. Because those north-
south streets are basicly only one block long and the east-west streets are not through
streets, there is really no reason for those Stop signs either.
Research has shown that one gallon of gasoline can be saved by eliminating a stop for
each of 100 vehicles traveling at 30 miles per hour. Also, the expense of maintaining
any sign costs the taxpayers. Therefore, any traffic control signs that can be removed
will help save the taxpayers money and non-replaceable resources. I recommend the
removal of the above mentioned Stop signs, thereby leaving only the Yield signs as
presently existing.
Sincerely,
Lee M. Cooper
