Re: Application for Certificate of Public Convenience
and Necessity for Hopkins Taxicab License
Dear Mayor and Council Members:
Enclosed please find a completed application for Certificate
of Public Convenience and Necessity to accompany our application
for twenty taxicab licenses which has already been filed. The
following information is submitted to assist in your evaluation.
Yellow Cab takes pride in its history and considers it
one of the most important credentials it can supply. Yellow has
a long established record of experience and service, having
started in Minneapolis about 65 years ago. In early 1982, the
original Yellow Cab Company was reorganized and sold. Our cabs,
today, are the properties of individual owners, making Yellow
even more efficient and professional.
Known today as Yellow Taxi Service Corporation, our manage-
ment has up to 40 years of experience in the taxi field. I was
employed for many years for the former Y..11ow Taxi Company of
Minneapolis, Inc. and am well acquainted with the taxicab business.
Since 1982, Yellow Taxi Service has operated in Minneapolis,
Eden Prairie, Apple Valley, Edina, Richfield, Bloomington,
Minnetonka, and Burnsville. Yellow Taxi Service Corp. is,also
holder of a Local Cartage Carrier Permit for the transportation
of property. It has also received courier service carrier
authority for the transportation of property anywhere in the
State.
Yellow is concerned for serving people. Yellow Cabs are
always ready to transport people within a neighborhood and do
not seek out the more profitable airport runs at the expense
of community needs for carrier service.
Yellow's record of community service includes a campaign
based on the theme "Friends keep friends from driving drunk"
assisted by support from Ed Phillips Sons. Under this program
bar and restaurant owners are presented with coupon books to be
used exclusively, for getting intoxicated customers home safely.
The first coupon book is a gift from Yellow so the bar -owner can
test the plan at no charge; subsequent books are available at a
50% discount. Tasteful posters have been designed for bars,
