Request for Street Lts by Honeywell0 a September 9, 1982 To: City Manager, Bill Craig From: City Engineer, John Strojan Re: Request for Street Lights The attached letter from Honeywell requested a driveway on Tyler Avenue at the northwest corner of the parking lot. This request was reviewed by Zoning and Planning and after a public hearing, recommendation was made to the Council to deny. The Council on August 3, 1982 denied the request. The letter also contained a request for consideration of additional street lights on Second Street N.E. at the two existing driveways as shown on the attached site plan. Even though the proposed lights are technically mid block the actual spacing would be approximately the same as a standard short block 270 -330'. Second Street carries a high volume of traffic and there are many entering and exiting vehicles from the parking lot to justify additional lighting. Respectfully submitted. ‘0 John J. Strojan June 8, 1982 Mr. John Strojan, P.E. Hopkins City Engr. 1010 First Street South Hopkins, MN 55343 Dear Mr. Strojan: KWM /rmi Encl.: Dwg. 10450 -A Honeywell Subject: 1. Proposed Parking Lot Driveway Tyler Avenue 2. Street Lighting Study Request 2nd St. N.E. Per our recent telephone conversation, I have prepared a drawing illustrating the proposed driveway for the Honeywell "Green. Lot This driveway has been suggested as a means to reduce the congestion at the two driveways exiting onto N.E. Second Street. We will be polling the people who park in this lot to see if the additional driveway would be used if installed. In the interim, we would like to know what is required to build the driveway in the way of permits, etc. Along the same line, we would like a study made of the street lighting on 2nd Street Northeast at the two existing driveways. There are presently no lights between the Tyler intersection and the Hopkins Arches Apartments. The situation becomes quite dangerous in the winter when the driveways are hidden by snowbanks. Also the increased traffic due to the St. Louis Street upgrade would seem to indicate that better lighting would be in order. Please let me know if you need more information to act on these two requests. Sincerely, :)4 Kenneth W. Miller Plant Facilities Engr.
