Letter- Impact of School ClosingCITY OF HOPKINS
1010 FIRST STREET SOUTH HOPKINS, MINNESOTA 55343 612/935 -8474
Frcen; Hopkins City Council
To: District 270 School Board
February 17, 1982
Subject: A statement of concern regarding the impact on the
Citizens of Hopkins of the School Board's forth-
coming decision on secondary school closings.
We have been following, with grave concern, what appears to be your admin-
istration's path to recommend the closing of Eisenhower High School as early
as June of this year. We believe the impact of a decision like this would have
a severe impact, not only on the education of our children, but on the City as
a cohesive community in support of public education.
Financial considerations must be given grave consideration. To expend over a
million dollars to enlarge and remodel a facility to house students, when one
is available now to do the job is inappropriate.
We realize that missing deadlines can mean added expense in the short run, but
going ahead quickly with decisions may lead you to make mistakes.
As a council, we would urge you to go slowly, consider long range effects, (not
just the next ten years), and to give further study and consideration and a
final conclusion, that Eisenhower is the most practical school to retain.
This is a true copy of a letter composed by the Hopkins City Council
at the regular meeting of February 16, 1982.
