I would recommend that the city tree budget pick up the $.30 disposal costs. This
would relieve the unfairness created when the city hauls away the trees cut down by
private citizens and placed at curb for disposal by city crews.
This approach should encourage more people to go with contractor take down, thus,
creating a much safer way of dealing with this problem. Most contractor disposal
includes utilization of wood for fuel and some crating lumber, etc. City disposal
is at county burn site with little or no utilization.
The public works operating department recommends that the low bid of Wachkolz
trucking in areas B, C, D be accepted with contractor disposal.
It is also recommended that area A also be awarded to Wachkolz Trucking with contractor
disposal due to the unsatisfactory performance on the 1981 contracts with Midwest Stump
and Ceres tree service.
