Recommendation from Cty. Mgr for 1981 Supervisory WagesFebruary 13, 1981
To: Mayor Council
From: Wm. P. Craig, City Manager
Subject: Supervisory Wages
As you may recall, last year a formula was adopted to keep top
supervisory wages in historical relationship to the wages of those
they supervised. Some significant changes were made last year due
to serious disparities, but no such changes are necessary this year.
Our top people, just like other employees, end up averaging just under
10% increases. Most assistants received approximately 10% increases,
rounded as necessary, which kept them in the same approximate relation-
ship with those supervised. Two exceptions to that rule are Bob
Jorgensen, who has begun supervising the maintenance of the HRA build-
ings and the new Community Center, and Scott Renne, who is recommended
for an "interium position" for 1981 of Deputy Assessor. He has com-
pleted a great deal of education and certification in preparation for
taking over Harold's position, and certainly deserves the boost. On
the other hand, the position would revert to "Appraiser" at the HMEA
scale when he leaves it.
As usual, please feel free to call me with any questions on these
pay matters. It is essential in these inflationary times to pay
supervisors a fair increase, or experience unacceptable turnover.
