Letter re" No Parking 2 AM- 5 PM1010 FIRST STREET SOUTH HOPKINS, MINNESOTA 55343 612/935-8474
October 20, 1981
To: John Strojan
City Engineer
City of Hopkins
1010 First Street South
Hopkins, MN 55343
Dear John:
CITY OF HOPKINS
Since the City Council authorized the No Parking 2 AM 5 AM sign a number
of years ago, the downtown has grown and there are areas of commercial buildings
that allow parking all night. Also, the Post Office is now working a night shift,
and those employees are parking on the street, which causes problems with street
cleaning and snow plowing.
The following streets should be made "No Parking 2 AM 5 AM":
9th. Ave. So. From 1st. St. So. to 2nd. St. So.
1st. St. So. From llth. Ave. So. to 8th. Ave. So.
10th. Ave. No. From Alley north of Excelsior Ave. to 1st. St. No.
llth. Ave. So. East side (15 minute parking zone along NW Bank).
Also, the following areas should be considered for "No Parking 2AM 5 AM",
even though they are residential, because of the high volume of traffic on these
streets:
8th. Ave. So. on the east side from 2nd. St. So. to Burschs'
llth. Ave. So. on the west side from the alley south of Excelsior Ave.,. to 1st. St.
So.
Also, the area on 1st. St. So. adjacent to the Post Office should be posted
"15 minute Parking" because 2 hour parking is too long a time period for that area.
The night -shift employees from the Post Office are creating a problem by their
cars remaining parked until 10:00 AM, which is a prime time when the area is needed
by persons coming to get their mail from their P.O. boxes.
1 would like to get these changes to the Council, if you concur with them, as
soon as possible, so as the signs can be installed before the winter weather sets
in.
Sincerely,
Lee M. Cooper
