CR 09-064 Award of Bid - Portable Emergency Generator - City ProjectAugust 18, 2009 Council Report 2009 -064
Proposed Action
Staff recommends the following motion: "Move that Council adopt Resolution 2009 -40 Resolution for Award
of Bid, Portable Emergency Generator, City Project 07 -09"
Overview
The bid opening for the Portable Emergency Generator was held on July 30, 2009. The low bid was
$122,880.00, which is approximately $7,000 more than the final engineer's estimate but still $13,000 less
than the budgeted amount. In all, 1 bid was opened. The low bidder is Ziegler Power Systems., from
Shakopee, MN. This contractor has provided several generators for Hopkins in the past. Staff is
recommending award of the project contract to Ziegler Power Systems.
Delivery of the generator is anticipated in approximately 4 months.
The generator will be stored at the Moline Standpipe site and will support either 120/208 volt, or 277/480
volt facilities in the City including the 200 horsepower well, the City's largest. The generator is sound
attenuated, so even though it is a standby machine, the intent is to have a machine that will respond the
citizens concerns in the affected areas.
