SWLRT OPEN HOUSE:
MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
Tuesday, August 11, 2009
The Mayor and City Council attended the SWLRT Open House at City Hall from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Mayor Maxwell then called the meeting to order at 8:00 pm. Present were Mayor Maxwell and Council
members, Brausen, Halverson, Rowan, City Manager Rick Getschow, and Finance Director Christine Harkess.
2010 BUDGET:
City Manager Getschow and Finance Director Harkess discussed the preliminary 2010 Budget and tax levy.
Pursuant to previous Council direction, staff has been compiling a draft budget with a 3.9% levy increase or the
levy limit. At this time, that levy equates to a general fund expenditure increase of less than 1% for 2010.
The City will receive tax value and capacity information from Hennepin County in September. This will
provide more detail for the City on the affect of the levy on the property tax rate. The City needs to set the
preliminary tax levy and budget by September 15.
Further discussion on the budget and the revenue and expenditure trends and impacts will be discussed at the
August 25 Council work session.
OTHER:
City Manager Getschow stated the Hopkins School Board and members of the faith community will
meet as part of the September 22 Council work session. The Council then discussed the faith
community days of service event that will take place on October 3 -4.
Council member Brausen discussed the idea of the Mayor and Council being involved with an event
(such as a pancake breakfast) with a service club for Veteran's Day. Council felt this was a good idea to
follow -up on.
With no further business, a motion was made by Brausen, seconded by Halverson to adjourn the meeting. The
motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 9:37 pm.
