Proposed Action
Staff recommends the following motion: "Move that Council adopt Resolution 2009 -058 Resolution for Award
of Bid, Portable Emergency Generator, City ject 07 -09"
Overview
The bid opening for the Portable Emergency Generator was held on October 7, 2009. The low bid was
$327,338.85, which is approximately $7,000 more than the final engineer's estimate. In all, 3 bids were
opened. The low bidder is Total Construction & Equipment Inc., from Inver Grove Heights, MN. Staff is
recommending award of the project contract to Total Construction & Equipment Inc.
The project is anticipated to be completed in approximately 5 months.

Bids were received for the above - referenced project on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, and were
opened and read aloud. Three bids were received. The bids were checked for mathematical
accuracy and tabulated. Please find enclosed the bid tabulation indicating the low bidder as
Total Construction & Equipment, Inc., Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota in the amount of
$327,338.85. The Engineer's Estimate for the project was $320,000.00.
We recommend that the City Council consider these bids and award a contract in the amount of
$327,338.85 to Total Construction & Equipment, Inc. based on the results of the bids received.

RESOLUTION FOR AWARD OF BID
WATER TREATMENT PLANT EMERGENCY GENERATOR
CITY PROJECT 07 -09
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOPKINS, MINNESOTA, that the
lowest bid of Total Construction & Equipment Inc in the amount of $327,338.85 is the
lowest responsible bid for the Water Treatment Plant Emergency Generator, City Project
07 -09, and the Mayor and City Manager are hereby authorized and directed to enter into
a contract with said bidder for and on behalf of the City.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Hopkins, Minnesota, this 20 day of October,
2009.
