Proposed Action
Staff recommends that the Council approve the following motion•
the current nnn uninn wag schedule
This action will bring the wages of non union employees more in line with those of union employees.
Overview
Non union employees received a 2.5% wage increase on January 1, 2000. This was the budgeted amount
for wage increases. Since that time contracts have been settled with four unions. (The police officer's
association has approved a settlement. The contract will be brought to the City Council at the July 18
Council meeting.) Union wage increases for 2000 range between 3.8% and 7 %.
In order to keep non union wages in line with union wage increases, I am proposing an additional 1%
increase in non union wages effective July 1, 2000.

Analysis of the Issues
• What will this increase cost?
The cost of this adjustment is approximately $5,700.
• How does this agreement compare to union contract settlements for 2000 in terms of wage increases?
Local 49 - 2% January 1 and 1% July 1 plus $25 /month CDL pay = 3.8% increase over 1999 wage
rates
HMEA - 1% January 1 and 3% July 1 = 4% increase over 1999 wage rates
Police - 3% January 1 and 1% October 1 = 4% increase over 1999 wage rates
PSO/Dispatcher - 2% cost of living increase plus market driven adjustment to salary range = 7%
increase over 1999 wage rates
Alternatives
1. Approve the wage adjustment.
2. Do not approve the wage adjustment.
Staff recommends Alternative #1.
