Memo/Lights at Blake SchoolCITY OF HOPKINS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: June 19, 1989
TO: Zoning & Planning Commission
FROM: Nancy S. Anderson N541
SUBJECT: Lights at Blake School
This item is before the Commission because Blake School wants to
revise their site plan by adding lights.
The staff is recommending amending the site plan to allow light
on the Blake site.
Lights are now being proposed for three areas on the Blake School
site. The following are the three areas:
- internal roadways
- new parking lot
- upper athletic fields (west side of site)
Gary Roller, representing Blake School, met with the surrounding
residents on June 14. The issue of putting lights on the site
was discussed. It was reported to the staff that the surrounding
residents did not object to adding lights on the Blake site.
The Zoning Ordinance does not address lights on athletic fields,
only lights in parking lots. The only requirement for lighting
in parking lots is that the light be shaded or diffused from
adjoining property and away from abutting traffic.
The staff would recommend the following additional Condition:
4. That the lighting is confined to the site and will
not negatively impact the surrounding area.
