Memo2MEMORANDUM DATE: August 18, 1988 TO: Zoning & Planning Commission FROM: Nancy S. Anderson OA SUBJECT: Sign Setbacks When there are many legitimate requests for a decrease in the setbacks, usually the ordinance is out of touch with the existing conditions. In this case, the building setback and sign setback is the same. It is logical to believe that signs should be placed in front of the building, but with the current setbacks, a sign cannot be put in front of a building. The staff is proposing to reduce the setback in industrial districts from 20 feet to 10 feet. We are also proposing setbacks for B -3 disricts that abutt county roads. Currently these signs use the building setback. The Commissions action is to set a public hearing for the next meeting.
