Letter - City Center Devel Corp - parking on ExcelsiorHopkins City Council
1010 First Street South
Hopkins, Mn., 55343
0 Dear Council Members,
The City Center Development Corporation board of directors
has reviewed John Strojan's analysis of the opportunities to
Put more parking on the Welcomall. Additional parking on the
mall would increase the downtown parking supply, provide
convenient short term parking for the businesses adjacent to
the mall, and potentially increase pedestrian traffic an the
mall.
It is CCDC's recommendation that parking spaces be added to
the mall in the following manner consistant with the plan
prepared by John Strojan.
a.4 spaces on the south side of Excelsior between 12th
and 11th Avenues
b.2 spaces to both the north and south sides of Excelsior
between 11th and 10th Avenues.
• c.2 spaces to the north side of Excelsior between 10th
and 9th Avenues.
d.2 spaces to the north side of Excelsior between 8th and
7th Avenues.
e.3 spaces to the north and 4 spaces to the south sides
of Excelsior between 7th and 6th Avenues.
This results in a total increase of 19 parking spaces.
We would futher ask that special consideration be given to
finding some way to add 2 spaces to the north side of
Excelsior between 9th and 8th Avenue. Neither the north nor
the south side of Excelsior between 9th and 8th Avenues have
any parking spaces at present or under the proposed change.
Even 2 spaces would provide an important short term parking
supply for the businesses on this block.
To maximize the utility of the parking spaces on Excelsior
• we ask that the parking, at least between 11th and 7th
Avenues, be posted with a 30 minute time limit. This will
encourage its use for its intended purpose as short term
parking.
Sincerely,
op
