Item 84-133 Park Board ConstructionDATE: October 30, 1984 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council THROUGH: William Craig, City Manager FROM: Hopkins Park Board QQ BY: Richard Wilson, Recreation and Park Director /t SUBJECT: Capital Improvement Projects During the 1985 park budget deliberation, the staff and Board discussed a variety of capital improvement projects for City parks. Those in- cluded: 1) New surface on the basketball court at Valley Park to put it in playing condition. It currently is in a concave shape and stores water in the middle. 2) Playground equipment for Elmo Park - -this "sub neighborhood park" is located on the City well grounds, north of the Elmo Park housing area. The playground equipment consists of a set of six pony gliders and a tire play structure. Formerly, when a larger park area was available, there was also a sun shelter. Recently, a merry -go -round that was approximately 20 years old, was removed and junked. The Park Board recommends providing a 10' diameter merry -go- round and a slide. 3) New surfacing on the basketball /volleyball /badminton/ tetherball court at Burnes Park to raise it to the point that storm water will run off. 4) Installation of a new underground irrigation system for Burnes Park. Projects (1) and (2) above were recommended to be accomplished in the 1985 general fund maintenance budget and project (3) from the 1984 maintenance budget. No recommendation was submitted regarding the irrigation system at Burnes Park. It is the City Manager's opinion that the discussed improvements, if accomplished, should be financed utilizing the PARK CONSTRUCTION FUND. The park construction fund is the same fund that the City's portion of the cost for the Burnes Park sun shelter, and improvements at Hilltop and Shady Oak Nature Park, were financed from, and currently totals about $33,000. ikraptana of Proposal -The above prices, specifications and conditions are satisfactory and are hereby accepted.
