MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
Tuesday, January 11, 2011
Raspberry Room - 6:30 p.m.
The meeting was started at 6:30 p.m. Present were Mayor Maxwell and Council
members Kristi Halverson, Rick Brausen, Cheryl Youakim, Bruce Rowan, Hopkins City
Manager Rick Getschow, Director of Planning & Economic Development Kersten
Elverum, Community Development Coordinator Tara Beard and Ehlers Financial
Advisor Stacie Kvilvang.
BUSINESS FORUM PLANNING:
Ms. Elverum asked for feedback from the Council on the goals and structure of a
City -sponsored business forum.
There was a great deal of discussion in regards to the direction that the City needs
to go in terms of working with both large and small companies and their employee's
within the City of Hopkins to do determine what their needs are. Suggestions were
made from this discussion that staff will follow-up on.
Kersten stated that the forum has been a recommendation coming out of the
annual goal setting process and has been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday,
March 9, 2011, at the Hopkins Center for the Arts.
8TH AVE REDEVELOPMENT DISCUSSION:
Kersten stated that she last met with the developers last December to discuss the
development project on 8th and 9th going downtown Hopkins.
Council discussed this project at length and supports staff to continue to encourage
the developers to keep discussions going with area property owners.
Ms. Kvilvang discussed with the Council the financial questions that they had in terms
of this project.
After much discussion it is determined that we still need to gather more information
before starting this project. Council provided staff with different scenarios to work
with in order to reach some kind of decision with the developers. Staff will go back
to developers Klodt and the Cornerstone Group to discuss these scenarios.

STATE OF THE CITY:
City Manager Getschow stated that the State of the City is being held at the Center
for the Arts on February 22, 2011 from 5:00 - 7:00. There was a great deal of
discussion about the format for that evening.
OTHER:
City Manager Getschow stated that Council is invited to attend the 16th Annual
Hopkins Police Department Annual Banquet that is being held on January 27, 2011.
With no further business to discuss there was a motion by Rick Brausen and a second
by Bruce Rowan to adjourn the meeting at 8:55 p.m.
