03-15-2011 WS after CCMINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Tuesday, March 15, 2011
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 8:20 pm. Present were Mayor
Maxwell and Council Members Brausen, Halverson, Youakim, Planning and
Economic Development Director Kersten Elverum, Public Works Director Steve
Stadler, Assistant City Manager Jim Genellie and City Manager Getschow.
Mr. Stadler and Ms. Elverum gave the Council an update on the Shady Oak Road
project. The new road alignment is narrower but will result in the loss of the parking
that is in the right-of-way for the businesses on the west side of Shady Oak.
The next step is to meet with the owners of these buildings to update them on the
project and hear their concerns and desired outcomes. Council Member Brausen
requested that the business owners be informed about the results of these discussions
as soon as possible.
8th Avenue Development - Kersten Elverum summarized the process up to this point.
The consensus of the City Council was that additional meetings with both developers
were not needed. Council Member Brausen pointed out that the City had two quality
developers to choose from. The biggest difference between the developers involved
financing. Council Members pointed out that funding was proving difficult for some
of the other proposed projects in Hopkins. The Council came to a consensus favoring
the Klodt Proposal due to the availability of funding and the fact that Klodt had
shown itself more willing to incorporate some of the design elements that were
important to the City Council.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
Jim Genellie, Assistant City Manager
