A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING UNITED
WAY'S SALUTE TO SMALL BUSINESS
WHEREAS, the United Way of Minneapolis Area currently provides funding
to nearly 390 programs in 107 agencies, many located in and serving suburban
communities. For example, in the Hopkins area agencies such as Vail Place
and the Sojourner Shelter provide programs ranging from vocational training
and job placement to a program at a battered women's shelter designed to re-
duce the impact of family violence on children through counseling, support
group services, education and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, the efforts of thousands of community volunteers enable the
United Way to maintain fundraising and administrative costs under nine cents
to a dollar; and
WHEREAS, in 1986 funds are being distributed to guality programs that
reach.more people in suburban communities. The United Way works with county
planning boards and private planning groups to identify gaps in service in a
continuingeffort to meet the comprehensive needs of people in the six county
service area.
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of Hopkins hereby support
United Way's Salute to Small Business, Wednesday, September 17, 1986, in the
Hopkins community and encourage local business and their employees to partici-
pate in this event.
