RESOLUTION NO. 2012-007
SUPPORTING METROPOLITAN COUNCIL'S 2012 BONDING REQUEST
FOR SOUTHWEST LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT
WHEREAS, the proposed Southwest Light Rail Transit line from Eden Prairie to
Minneapolis will run through our city; and
WHEREAS, the Southwest Light Rail Transit line is a key element in our future
development as it connects businesses and workers, supports economic growth, improves transit
options for residents, and increases housing choices; and
WHEREAS, the Southwest Light Rail Transit will contribute t the economic vitality of
this region and support the economic competiveness of the State of Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, our city staff, residents and business community have been and continue to
be supportive of and closely involved in the planning for this project, as indicated by the
previous adoption of a city council resolution in support of Southwest Light Rail Transit; and
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Minnesota supports and the Metropolitan
Council has requested $25,000, 000 in 2012 bonding for Southwest Light Rail Transit; and
WHEREAS, approving this bonding request is crucial to keeping the Southwest Light
Rail Transit project on schedule as it move through Preliminary Engineering and seeks final
approval; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we strongly urge all Hennepin County
state legislators to support the Metropolitan Council's bonding request for Southwest Light Rail
Transit and to work to make sure that the State of Minnesota continues to provide resources for
this crucial regional infrastructure.
