PROCLAMATION
DON BATES DAY
WHEREAS, Don was one of the founding members of the Hopkins
Westwind Concert Band in 1983. He was the principal conductor of the HWCB
from 1983 — 2012; and
WHEREAS, he instilled a love of music and a devotion to fine
musicianship in thousands of students during his years of teaching; and
WHEREAS, Don has supported and participated in musical activities
throughout the entire metro area and particularly in his hometown, City of
Hopkins; and
WHEREAS, at the time of his retirement in 1999, a scholarship fund was
established in his naive for Hopkins high school students planning to study music
education; and
WHEREAS, with Don at the helm of the HWCB, their mission is to
provide life-long musical learning for adults, to offer high-quality free concerts to
area residents, and to be the musical "Ambassador of Goodwill" for the City of
Hopkins.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Eugene J. Maxwell,
Mayor of the City of Hopkins, do hereby recognize and appreciate Don Bates for
his many years of outstanding musical service to the Hopkins community
WHEREFORE, I set my hand and caused
the seal of the City of Hopkins to be affixed
this 18th Day of May, 2013.
