APPROVE 2012-2014 POLICE SERGEANTS' CONTRACT
Proposed Action
Staff recommends that the Council approve the following motion: Move approval of the 2012-2014
Contract for the Police Sergeants' Union.
This action will ratify the 2012-2014 contract with L.E.L.S. Local #171 the Police Sergeants' Union.
Overview
The contract calls for a 1% wage increase effective January 1, 2012, a 1% increase effective January 1,
2013, a 1% increase effective July 1, 2013, a 2% wage increase effective January 1, 2014, and a 1%
increase effective July 1, 2014. This matches the increase for the Police Officers. In 2014, the City's
contribution for single insurance will increase to $724/month. This also matches the police officers.
Primary Issues to Consider
• How does this agreement fit in with the 2012-2014 budget?
The City budgeted 0% for wage increases in 2012. The cost of the proposed 1% increase is about
$5,400 in 2012. A split increase was negotiated for 2013 instead of the budgeted 2% increase on
January 1, 2013. This will save a little over $3,000 in 2013. The 2014 increase matches what other
unions have agreed to for 2014.
