Minutes of December 4, 2007 CC A regular meeting of the Hopkins City Council was held on December 4, 2007, in the
� Council Chambers of the Hopkins City Hall.
Present were Mayor Maxwell and Council Members Brausen, Rowan, and Halverson.
Also, present were staff inembers Getschow, Genellie, Stadler, Elverum, Reid, and City
Attorney Jerry Steiner.
I. CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
II. OPEN AGENDA - PUBLIC COMMENTS AND CONCERNS
There were none.
III. OATH OF OFFICE
Jim Genellie administered the oath of office to Moses Momanyi of the Human Rights
Commission.
IV. PRESENTATION
1. Human Rights Award
• Members of the Human Ri hts Commission, presented the Human Rights Award to Deb

Butler. Deb has organized a Neighborhood Watch group and worked with Kathy Magdal
on the National Night Out Project in the Blake Corridor area. Deb helped form the Blake
Road Corridor Project, a collaborative effort with cities, non-profits, school district,
property and business owners, and Hennepin County. Ms. Butler has assisted with
meetings, taken minutes, recruited people from ethnic groups to be interviewed, located
venues, arranged for babysitters and purchased ethnic food for participants.

Council Member Brausen moved and Council Member Halverson seconded a motion to
approve the Consent Agenda. A poll of the vote was as follows: Council Member
� Brausen, aye; Council Member Rowan, aye; Council Member Halverson, aye; Mayor
Maxwell, aye. The motion carried unanimously.
VI. NEW BUSINESS

1. Resolution Affirming Support for the Active Living Program 'in Hennepin County �""'-"�
(CR2007- 123)
Chief Reid provided the background for this item. In 2006, Hennepin County received a
grant to assess the strengths and barriers to active living in the County and to engage
communities in developing active living efforts. Hopkins took part in the assessment.
; The countywide assessment study results indicate there is a high willingness to walk and
bike across Hennepin County.
This resolution supports Hennepin County's efforts to integrate active living into multiple
projects in the areas of physical infrastructure, funding and program integration.
Council Member Rowan moved and Council Member Halverson seconded a motion to
adopt a resolution affirming support for the Active Living Program in Hennepin County. A
poll of the vote was as follows: Council Member Brausen, aye; Council Member Rowan,
aye; Council Member Halverson, aye; Mayor Maxwell, aye. The motion carried
unanimously. ,
