CR 2013-129 Approve 2012-2014 HMEA ContractDecember 17, 2013 M Council Report 2013-129 APPROVE 2012-2014 HMEA CONTRACT Proposed Action Staff recommends that the Council approve the following motion: Move approval of the 2012-2014 Contract with the Hopkins Municipal Employee's Association. This action will ratify a three year contract with HMEA, which represents the clerical and technical employees. Settling this contract means that all the bargaining units have settled for 2014. Overview The contract calls for a 0% wage increase effective January 1, 2012, a 1.5% wage increase effective January 1, 2013, a 1.5% wage increase effective July 1, 2013; a 1.5% wage increase effective January 1, 2014, and a 1.5% wage increase effective July 1, 2014. There are no increases in the City contribution towards insurance during the life of the contract. The 0% in 2012 follows 2% in 2011 and 0% in 2010 for HMEA. There are no other economic issues in the contract. How does this agreement fit in the budget? Having no increase in 2012 will, of course, fit within the budget for 2012. The agreement is slightly above what was budgeted for 2013 and slightly below what was budgeted for 2014. Alternatives 1. Approve the contract. 2. Do not approve the contract. Staff would have to renegotiate the contract. Staff recommends Alternative # 1.
