III.2. Proclamation Celebrating LGBTQIA+ Pride Month; Baker CITY OF HOPKINS City Council Report 2026-054 To: Honorable Mayor Pro Tempore and Council Members Mike Mornson, City Manager From: David Baker, Program Specialist Date: June 2, 2026 Subject: Proclamation for LGBTQIA+ Pride Month (Pride Month) _____________________________________________________________________ RECOMMENDED ACTION MOTION TO adopt a Proclamation for LGBTQIA+ Pride Month (Pride Month) in Hopkins, and to hang Pride flags from every other flagpole along Mainstreet. OVERVIEW Each June, Pride Month is celebrated across the country as a recognition of the LGBTQIA+ community and its contributions to society, culture, public service, and civic life. Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate diversity, promote understanding, and reaffirm the importance of ensuring that every resident feels seen, valued, and welcomed. Of special note this year is the return of Hopkins Pride. Hopkins Pride is a community based organization focused on fostering inclusion, visibility, and belonging for LGBTQIA+ residents, families, and allies in Hopkins through events, outreach, and community partnerships. A central initiative is this year's family friendly, sober Pride Festival, held on June 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Downtown Park. The event welcomes all ages and features local vendors (including our very own Nachos!), community resources, entertainment, and activities designed to promote connection, celebration, and a safe, inclusive environment. Through collaboration with the City of Hopkins, local businesses, schools, and community organizations, Hopkins Pride works to strengthen community connection and ensure Hopkins remains a welcoming city for all residents. Tonight, the City of Hopkins is proud to recognize Pride Month and honor the many contributions of LGBTQIA+ community members to our shared civic life. Starting June 3, City staff will hang Pride Progress flags alternating with the American flag along Mainstreet.
