03-03-2015 Work Session after City Council Meeting MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Tuesday, March 3,2015
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 8:20 pm.
Present at the meeting were:
x Eugene Maxwell, Mayor x Kristi Halverson, Council
x Jason Gadd, Council x Aaron Kuznia, Council
x Molly Cummings, Council x Kim Kozar(City Attorney)
x Mike Mornson, City Manager x Kersten Elverum, Dir. PED
x Nancy Anderson, Planner
Council member Gadd stated that there will be no corridor management meeting this month.
Council member Cummings stated that the Hopkins Hockey has an office in the Johnson
building. They will be losing the space in the future. She stated that they will be looking for
space in the future.
Council member Kuznia stated that he attended the newly elected officials seminar put on by the
LMC.
Kersten, Kim and Nancy discussed with the council the possibility of Medical Cannabis
manufacturing and distributing facilities coming to the state and if we need to address any
changes in our ordinances. The city council will be considering putting a moratorium on
Medical Cannabis.
City Manager Mike Mornson:
• Mike discussed the Citizen Academy Alumni event. He stated that it is May 28th at the
Center for the Arts. The details on the agenda will come at a future date.
• Mike handed out invitation to Metro Cities annual meeting on April 16, 2015 in St. Paul.
Maureen Bausch the CEO for the super bowl host committee will be guest speaker.
• Mike went over the dates for the LMC conference. The conference is June 24 to June 26,
2015.
• Mike recapped meeting he attended with Steve Stadler with representatives from all the
non-profits. He stated that they are all planning on working together on raising funding
for a building in Cottageville Park.
• Mike informed the council that police chief Reynolds will be a guest on MPR on March
11, 2015 at 11:00 am on how Hopkins does community policing.
• Mike stated that an open house for the LRT station design will be April 14, 2015 at 6:00
pm at Hopkins city hall.
02/04/15 Council Work Session
• Mike stated that at the upcoming work session the council will get updates on the Park
Let as well as plans for promoting Main Street during construction.
• Mike stated that the next regular meeting will be presenting Bonding resolution plans for
Main Street, Cottageville Park and the parking lots.
There being no further business Council member Kuznia moved and Council Member Gadd
seconded a motion to adjourn. The meeting was adjourned by unanimous consent at 9:25 pm.
