08-01-2016 Work Session after City Council MeetingMINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION PROCEEDINGS AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING Monday, August 1, 2016 CALL TO ORDER Mayor Cummings called the meeting to order at 7:28 p.m. Council Members and staff present at meeting included the following: x v Mayor Cummins x City Manager Morrison x Council Member Kuznia x Asst. City Manager Lenz x Council Member Halverson x Council Member Gadd x Council Member Campbell The following updates were provided at the meeting: City Council: • Council Member Campbell discussed a resident complaint regarding multiple vehicles parked long-term on the street. Staff will follow up on the situation. • Council Member Campbell commented on the success of the Council Booth at the Hopkins Farmers Market on Saturday. • Council Member Gadd gave an overview of upcoming SWLRT and Metro Cities Transportation meetings. • There was Council discussion regarding adding "Ask your City Council" signage to the Farmers Market booth. Assistant City Manager Lenz will follow up. • There was discussion regarding a request by a Farmers Market representative to have the city subsidize Hennepin County licensing fees for the sampling event. Council was concerned that subsidizing fees would set a precedent and that more details and time was needed to explore the request. Council Member Kuznia will follow up with the Farmers Market. • Mayor Cummings and Council Member Gadd met with the Cody's Dash committee regarding ways to enhance future events. The discussion included ways to notify city residents regarding the event and how to partner with area organizations to publicize the event. Council asked about temporary no parking signs along the race route. Staff will investigate. • Council Member Halverson commented that a vehicle has been parked behind St. Gabriel's church every night. Staff will investigate. • Council Member Kuznia commented that a damaged vehicle has been parked at Eisenhower Elementary for 2 weeks. Staff will investigate. • Mayor Cummings thanked Council Member Kuznia for his idea regarding the City Council booth at the Hopkins Farmers Market. Assistant City Manager Lenz will add the Farmers Market booth information to the City's social media sites. • Mayor Cummings commented that there is a damaged vehicle at 8th Avenue and 2nd Street. Staff will investigate. • Mayor Cummings and Council Member Campbell will be attending a Work Session on water on Wednesday, August 3 sponsored by the Watershed District and the University of Minnesota. • Mayor Cummings will be attending the Tour de Trash trip on Wednesday, August 3. • Mayor Cummings discussed the schedule for City Manager Morrison's employment review. • There was discussion regarding the National Night Out locations and events. Administration: • City Manager Morrison commented that Hopkins resident Katie Johnson would be participating in the upcoming Olympics. There was discussion regarding recognizing her achievements at a future City Council meeting. • Hopkins Police Officer Johnson has been selected to be a counselor supporting officers affected by shootings in the line of duty. • City Manager Mornson gave an overview of upcoming meetings and events. • Assistant City Manager Lenz gave an overview of the Park Board applications.
