10-18-2016 Work Session after City Council Meeting MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION PROCEEDINGS AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING Tuesday, October 18, 2016 CALL TO ORDER Mayor Cummings called the meeting to order at 7:55 p.m. Council Members and staff present at meeting included the following: x Mayor Cummings x City Manager Mornson x Council Member Kuznia x Asst. City Manager Lenz x Council Member Halverson x Public Works Director Stadler x Council Member Gadd x Council Member Campbell The following updates were provided at the meeting: Public Works Public Works Director Stadler commented that the Park Board would like to move up the replacement of the play equipment at Maetzold Field to 2017 in addition to the scheduled Hilltop Park. The Maetzold play equipment was originally scheduled in the Capital Improvement Plan for 2018. Mr. Stadler commented that there is a promotion on play equipment at a significant savings. Mr. Stadler would be scheduling neighborhood meetings. City Council • Council Member Kuznia commented that the Cub Scouts would be attending a City Council meeting in early 2017 as part of badge requirements. City Manager Mornson commented that the Scout leader could let City Clerk Domeier know when the Cub Scouts would be in attendance. • Council Member Kuznia would like to discuss the allocation of CDBG funds prior to it being on the Council agenda. City Manager Mornson will have Community Development staff give an update at a Work Session. • Council Member Halverson relayed a resident concern about sight lines at the bike path crossing on 2nd Street. • Council Member Gadd commented on concerns from business owners regarding the downturn of business due to the recent media stories. Council needs to continue to promote the positive events in Hopkins. • Council Member Gadd commented that JCI Hopkins would like to have a ribbon cutting when the Little Libraries are installed in Valley and Oakes Parks. • Council Member Gadd will not be in attendance at the December 6, 2016 City Council meeting. • Council Member Campbell will not be in attendance at the Farmers Market booth on Saturday, October 29. • Council Member Campbell will be at the Burnes Park Improvements public meeting on Tuesday, October 25. • Council Member Campbell attended a YWCA forum on race. • Council Member Campbell will be attending the Quarterly 169 Mobility Study on Thursday, October 20. • Mayor Cummings met with the owners of Wilkus Architects. They commented that they are very happy to be in Hopkins. • Mayor Cummings met with the South West Mayors group last Friday. • City Manager Mornson and Mayor Cummings met with the new Star Tribune reporter. • Mayor Cummings talked to 3rd grade classes at Alice Smith Elementary School. • Mayor Cummings will be a judge at the Anti-bullying event on Wednesday. • Mayor Cummings gave an update on the Avenue's annual neighborhood meeting. • Mayor Cummings shared that the Citrus Systems commented on the amount of community support and that they are continuing to work with the CDC. • The Mayors within the Hopkins School District will be meeting with the Hopkins Schools Superintendent. • Mayor Cummings read a thank you note from the Hopkins Raspberry Festival. Administration • City Manager Mornson updated the Council on a Rotary World Polio Flash Mob Dance Off event scheduled for Monday, October 24 beginning at 5:30 pm at HealthSource Hopkins.
