CALL TO ORDER
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regulaz meeting of the Hopkins City Council was held
on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 7:03 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 1010 First
Street South, Hopkins.
Mayor Cummings called the meeting to order with Council Members Kuznia, Halverson, Gadd
and Campbell attending. Staff present included City Manager Mornson, City Clerk Domeier,
Planning and Development Director Elverum, Finance Director Harkess, Police Chief Johnson,
Officer Mike Johnson and Assistant City Manager Lenz.
ADOPT AGENDA
Motion by Kuznia. Second by Campbell.
Motion to Adopt Agenda.
Ayes: Kuznia, Halverson, Cummings, Gadd, Campbell.
Nays: None. Motion carried.
PRESENTATIONS
111.1. Update on C.O.P.S. Kids Camp
Chief Johnson recognized Officer Mike Johnson's commitment to a fundraising campaign for the
families of fallen Police Officers. Officer Johnson gave an overview of his experience as a camp
mentor at the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) Kids Camp. Officer Johnson was the first
mentor from Minnesota to participate in the C.O.P.S. Kids Camp. Chief Johnson read a letter
thanking and recognizing Officer Johnson for his hazd work and dedication at the C.O.P.S. Kids
Camp. A video was played about the C.O.P.S. Kids Camp experience. Officer Johnson thanked
the Council and City for their support. Chief Johnson commented on the positive impact Hopkins
officers make in the community. On behalf of the City of Hopkins, Mayor Cummings thanked
Officer Johnson for the positive image he portrays and thanked him for all his efforts.
111.2. World's Largest Raspberry
Dr. Pete L'Allier, Hopkins Health and Wellness, gave an overview of a project to create a
monument of the World's Largest Raspberry on a pazcel of land on 8`h Avenue North that is
owned by Hopkins Health and Wellness. Ben Janssens, Signminds, Inc., would design the
monument. Dr. L'Allier gave an overview of the project details, costs and fundraising efforts.
Dr. L'Allier discussed a community fundraising event involving a race, music and food. To gain
support and contributions Dr. L'Allier will be discussing the project with azea businesses and
community organizations. There was Council discussion regarding the event timetable and
maintenance of the monument. Dr. L'Allier commented that the race could be used to promote
other race events and that the monument would be owned and maintained by Hopkins Health and
Wellness. Mayor Cummings commented that the Council would stay open-minded, continue to
discuss the event and asked Dr. L'Allier to keep tbe staff and Council updated.
