2017-066 Authorizing Submittal of the Blake Road Improvement Project Application for 2017 Local Road Improvement Program Funding CITY OF HOPKINS HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION NO. 2017-066 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING SUBMITTAL OF THE BLAKE ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT APPLICATION FOR 2017 LOCAL ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FUNDING WHEREAS,Blake Road, a regionally significant roadway, is expected to experience major changes over the next 20 years due in large part to the opening of the Green Line Extension and construction of a Southwest Light Rail Transit(LRT) station at Blake Road; and WHEREAS, a Blake Road Corridor study was completed in 2015 by the City of Hopkins and it's project partners including, the City of St. Louis Park, the City of Edina, Hennepin County, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, and the Metropolitan Council; and WHEREAS, the City of Hopkins anticipates redevelopment near the corridor, increasing traffic volumes on Blake Road, and increased pedestrian activity; and WHEREAS,the City of Hopkins strives to provide better transportation opportunities for pedestrians, bicyclists, and bus transit users; and WHEREAS,the City of Hopkins strives to provide better connections and access to adjacent neighborhoods, commercial nodes, schools, and recreational facilities; and WHEREAS,the City of Hopkins has programmed the Blake Road Improvement Project for construction starting in 2018; and WHEREAS, the Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP)administered by the Minnesota Department of Transportation makes available up to $1,000,000 to provide funding assistance to local agencies towards local road projects that are regionally significant, result in safety improvements, and address transportation deficiencies. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Hopkins, Minnesota: 1. The Department of Public Works is authorized to apply for this funding. 2. The City Engineer or his designee is authorized to submit the applications and to serve as the contact person.
