2001-089CITY OF HOPKINS Hennepin County, Minnesota RESOLUTION 2001-89 A RESOLUTION PROVIDING ASSISTANCE TO CERTAIN EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF HOPKINS WHO ARE CALLED TO SERVICE WITH THE STATE NATIONAL GUARD TO PROTECT CITIZENS WHEREAS, The State of Minnesota has activated the State National Guard to provide additional protection at local airports, and this call up for extended military duty was involuntary; and WHEREAS, persons so called to active military duty frequently suffer from a reduction of their wages and benefits, thus beating a disproportionate share of the burden of the present emergency call up; and WHEREAS, the citizens of this city support the efforts of our National Guard and the men and women who are involved in the present duty; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE city Council of the City of Hopkins that the following assistance be provided to employees of the City of Hopkins who are regularly employed for more than 30 hours or more per week and who are called involuntarily to active military service to provide additional protection at local airports: In addition to the requirements of Minnesota Statutes Section 192.26 and following fulfillment of any of the City's obligations therein, for a period not exceed six (6) months from the first day of lost employment by the City directly due to such involuntary call to active military service, the City shall pay to affected employees an amount equal to the difference between their military pay and 80% of the regular wages the employee(s) otherwise would have received from the City. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution shall take effect upon passage by the City Council of the City of Hopkins.
