02-21-06 WSFebruary 21, 2006 Page 1 MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING February 21, 2006 Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 8:28 pm at the conclusion of the regular City Council meeting at City Hall. Council members present were Mayor Maxwell and Council members Rowan, Thompson, Halverson, and Youakim. City personnel present were City Manager Rick Getschow. Newly Elected Officials Training Council member Youakim and Council member Halverson stated that the training they received for newly elected officials through the League of Minnesota cities was an informative and rewarding training session. Blake Road Initiatives Council member Youakim stated that a diversity committee that she is on, which consists of other community members and school officials, may take on the Blake Road project as a 2006 initiative. City Manager Getschow stated that the Blake Road project will be on a work session agenda in March to update the Council on the different projects that are in progress at the current time. There will also be a Friday update in the near future regarding the Blake Road initiatives. Caring Youth Awards Council member Rowan stated that the Caring Youth Awards presentation will be on Thursday, March 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 at Minnetonka City Hall. He will be in attendance at this event. Also, he will forward formation to the Mayor and City Manager regarding a proclamation for the Council for Caring Youth Day. He will provide any certificates that may need to be signed by the Council. Transportation The Mayor asked if the City Manager had received from the Association of Metro Municipalities (AMM) the resolution of support for the motor vehicle sales tax (MVST) initiative. City Manager Getschow stated that it would be on a future agenda for consideration. Sister City Relationship City Manager Getschow handed out a memorandum from State Representative Steve Simon regarding a potential Sister City relationship between Hopkins and a city in China. The Council will discuss this at a future work session after reviewing Simon's memo. Erwin Stobbe The Mayor stated that he had received several phone calls from Stobbe. Other Council members had also received phone calls over the past few weeks. City Manager Getschow stated that there will be a comprehensive memo from Public Works Director Steve Stadler and City Attorney Wynn Curtis updating the Council on the status of this current issue. There being no further business, a motion was made by Council member Thompson, seconded by Halverson to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.
