• MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
July 5, 2005
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 8:20 pm at the conclusion of the regular City Council
meeting at City Hall. Council members present were Mayor Maxwell and Council members Thompson,
Brausen, Johnson, and Rowan. City personnel present were City Manager Rick Getschow, and city
attorneys Wynn Curtiss and Jerry Steiner.
City Attorney Services Review
The City Council discussed with Miller Steiner & Curtiss law firm, services rendered by the law
firm to the City of Hopkins. Discussion regarded staff feedback on services, Council feedback on services,
and attorney input on services. Miller Steiner & Curtiss also discussed the rates for the 2006 year.
Banners
Council member Johnson stated that the Raspberry banners did not look good, as they are all twisted
on the poles. City staff had warned the Raspberry Festival folks that the banners that they purchased may
not work with the current sign posts. Raspberry Festival organizers stated that they would manually work
to see that the banners are visible.
Council member Rowan wondered why the green banners that were on the Excelsior Boulevard
median had been removed. City Manager Getschow stated that he would check with the Public Works
eDirector.
Fireworks
Council member Thompson requested checking into whether the City of Hopkins parks can be open
past 10 o'clock on July 4`'` for the purposes of people who wish to view aerial fireworks in neighboring
communities.
City Manager Review
The City Manager distributed worksheets from Jim Brimeyer that need to be completed prior to the
City Manager review on July 26.
Senior Community Services
The Mayor provided the City Manager Getschow with a request from Senior Community Services
for funding. Getschow will provide a copy of that letter to the rest of the Council.
Pawn America
Getschow updated the Council on the meeting that he, City Clerk Obermaier, and engineering tech
Rich Hill had with Pawn America regarding the proposed relocation to an Excelsior Boulevard business
space. The proposed new location of Pawn America is less than 350 feet from a liquor store. Therefore
the relocation would not be allowed per City Ordinance. Getschow stated that Pawn America is looking at
other options to reduce that distance between their business and a liquor store.

Council member Brause~ will forward an email to City Manager Getschow regarding stop signs on
the trail system in Hopkins.

• There being no further business, a motion was made by Council member Brausen, seconded by
Council member Thompson to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was
adjourned at 9:40 pm.
