2007-063CITY OF HOPKINS HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 2007-063 RESOLUTION TO APPROVE A GRANT AGREEMENT WITH HENNEPIN COUNTY FOR "INCENTIVE FUNDS" FOR A WASTE ABATEMENT PROJECT AT THE DEPOT COFFEE HOUSE WHEREAS, The Depot Coffee House is an ideal setting for organic recycling and provides an opportunity to build public awareness on issues of waste reduction; and WHEREAS, implementing a Source Separated Organics program could reduce up to 85% of the trash collected at The Depot Coffee House; and WHEREAS, Hopkins students and youth will benefit from the "living laboratory" created by this venture; and WHEREAS, Hopkins Science and Economics students will hold classes or visit The Depot to learn about "Green Business" practices and analyze data for cost/benefit savings; and WHEREAS, The Depot Coffee House will provide the pilot for other civic and business groups in the Hopkins community, to see the practical applications of organic recycling as well as the steps for implementation; and WHEREAS, accepting this "Incentive Fund" grant from Hennepin County will cover the majority of the start-up costs, including: advertising, training, consulting and materials; and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT 1) the City Council approve a grant agreement with Hennepin County to accept "Incentive Funds" for a Source Separated Organics program at The Depot Coffee House in Hopkins. 2) The City Council authorizes the Mayor and City Manager to enter into this grant agreement on behalf of the City of Hopkins for this project.
