RESOLUTION 2024-004
RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A POLLING PLACE IN THE CITY OF HOPKINS FOR
THE HENNEPIN COUNTY COMMISSIONER DISTRICT 6 SPECIAL ELECTIONS
ON APRIL 30 AND MAY 14, 2024
WHEREAS, on January 8, 2024, Hopkins Public School District 270, representatives
confirmed via email due to scheduling and security concerns at Alice Smith Elementary
School, the school would not be available for the April 30 and May 14, 2024, Hennepin
County Commissioner District 6 Special Elections and serve as a polling place; and
WHEREAS, the school serves the voters in Hopkins Precinct 1; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute 204B.16, Polling Places, Designation states, by
December 31 of each year, the governing body of each municipality and of each county
with precincts in unorganized territory must designate by ordinance or resolution a
polling place for each election precinct. The polling places designated in the ordinance
or resolution are the polling places for the following calendar year, unless a change is
made: (1) pursuant to section 204B.175; (2) because a polling place has become
unavailable; or (3) because a township designates one location for all state and federal
elections and one location for all township only elections; and
WHEREAS, on January 11, 2024, City of Hopkins City Manager gave confirmation to
use the City Hall Raspberry Room as a replacement for Alice Smith Elementary School
to serve as the Precinct 1 polling place for the April 30 and May 14, 2024, Hennepin
County Commissioner District 6 Special Elections; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute 204B.15, subdivision 1, allows for a polling place to be
located within the boundaries of the precinct or within one mile of those boundaries.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Hopkins
hereby establishes Hopkins City Hall, 1010 1st St. S., as Hopkins Precinct 1 in the City
of Hopkins for the Hennepin County Commissioner District 6 Special Elections on April
30 and May 14, 2024. Hopkins Precinct 1 will be reestablished to Alice Smith
Elementary School for the August 13, 2024, State Primary and November 5, 2024,
General Election.
