RESOLUTION NO: 93-113
RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE FORMATION OF
AN INDEPENDENT NON-PROFIT ARTS BOARD IN HOPKINS
WHEREAS, as a result of extensive discussions which have taken
place on the possible construction of a performing arts facility,
local individuals have come forward and have expressed an interest in
'forming an independent non-profit arts board in Hopkins; and
WHEREAS, individuals who have expressed an interest in forming a
non-profit arts board in Hopkins have met to discuss issues relative
to the organization of an arts board in Hopkins; and
WHEREAS, the City of Hopkins wishes to go on record supporting
the formation of an arts board in Hopkins.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Hopkins wishes to indicate its support for the formation of a local
independent non-profit arts group in Hopkins.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council wishes to
identify potential activities of an arts board in Hopkins. These
include:
o Undertake organizational activities such as identifying
a mission statement, goals, adopting bylaws, electing
officers, establishing a budget, solicit operating
grants, obtain 501 C3 status, and develop a work plan.
o Provide input into the planning of the first phase of a
performing arts facility.
o Serve as a broad based arts organization in the community
which includes:
Foster community appreciation and involvement in the
arts.
Inventory and assess arts activities needs and desires
in the community.
Educate the community regarding the arts.
o
Facilitate/coordinate arts programming and activities.

Explore opportunities for future expansion of
performing arts facility to accommodate arts needs in
the community.
Become involved in fund ralslng activities for facility
or program growth in the future.
Adopted by the City council of the City of Hopkins this 19th day of
October, 1993.
