1991-024 o o CITY OF HOPKINS Hennepin County, Minnesota RESOLUTION NO. 91-24 A RESOLUTION PROVIDING ASSISTANCE TO CERTAIN EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF HOPKINS WHO ARE CALLED TO SERVICE DURING THE CURRENT CONFLICT BE1WEEN IRAQ AND THE UNITED STATES AND ITS ALLIES WHEREAS, the United States of America and its allies are involved in conflict with Iraq which has necessitated the involuntary call-up to active military duty of members of the National Guard, the Military Reserve, and persons retired from military service; and WHEREAS, persons so called to active military duty frequently suffer from a reduction of their wages and benefits, thus bearing a disproportionate share of the burden of the present conflict; and . WHEREAS, the President of the United States has called upon all citizens to support the men and women of our military forces who are involved in the present conflict; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Hopkins that. the following assistance be provided to employees of the City of Hopkins who are regularly employed for 30 hours or more per week and who are called involuntarily to active military service during the present conflict with Iraq: 1. In addition to the requirements of Minnesota Statutes Section 192.26 and following the fulfillment of any of the City's obligations therein, for a period not to exceed six (6) months from the first day of lost employment by the City directly due to such involuntary call to active military service, the City shall pay the difference between the employee's total military compensation and the regular wages which the employee otherwise would have received form the City. 2. The City shall additionally pay the employee an amount equivalent to the city's contribution for health, life and dental insurance for that employee. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution shall take effect upon passage by the City Council of the City of Hopkins.
