RESOLUTION NO. 90-53
ADOPTION OF THE COUNTY'S PAPER PROCUREMENT POLICY
WHEREAS, Hennepin County has adopted Resolution No. 89-12-962 which
states that the policy of the county will be to use recycled paper
containing at least 50% recycled fiber.
WHEREAS, Hennepin County has resolved that in order for cities to
remain eligible for funding under the Hennepin County Funding
Assistance policy for recycling, municipalities must adopt the same or
similar procedures for paper procurement not later than June 1, 1990.
WHEREAS, The City of Hopkins receives a substantial amount of funding
through the Hennepin County Recycling Funding Assistance Policy which
help fund our recycling programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Hopkins hereby
resolves to adopt the following paper procurement policy:
1. The policy of the city will be to use recycled paper
containing at least 50% recycled fiber. Exceptions to the
policy may be granted after review by the purchasing agent.

Items currently purchased off the county contract will be
assumed to be of at least 50% recycled fiber and current
city and county stocks of non-recycled paper will be used
until those stocks are depleted.
3. All new office equipment will have specifications requesting
information as to compatibili ty with the use of recycled
paper. Whenever possible and/or cost effective equipment
will be purchased that can utilize recycled paper.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that city staff be directed to continue to
find new uses for recycled paper and other recycled materials whenever
possible and/or cost effective in an effort to create markets for
r cycled materials.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Hopkins this 1st of
