RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF HENNEPIN COUNTY TO
EXPLORE LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT
WHEREAS, light rail transit has been demonstrated to be a
viable mode of transportation in a growing number of United
States cities; and
WHEREAS, development of a light rail transit system in the
Twin Cities metropolitan area has received much discussion
and increased support in recent years; and
o
WHEREAS, Hennepin County owns the railroad right-of-way
needed to construct light rail transit in Hennepin County;
and
o
WHEREAS, Hennepin County has expressed its intent to
explore light rail transit in Hennepin Couty,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Hopkins hereby endorses and supports Hennepin
County I s efforts to study the feasibility of light rail
transit in Hennepin County. Be it further resolved, that
the City Council of the City of Hopkins hereby endorses and
suports H.F. 416 and S.F. 282 which allows Hennepin County
to proceed with its study of the feasibility of light rail
transit in Hennepin County.
