MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL BUDGET WORKSHOP September 8. 1987

Present were Mayor Mi1bert, Councilmembers: Redepenning,
Kritzler and Anderson. Mr. Shirley arrived at 8:30 p.m.
Also present at the meeting were City staff Rapp, Renne,
Mielke, Genellie, Johnson, Wilson, Thiel and Schedler.
I. Mayor Milbert called the meeting to order at 7:p.m.
II. PRESENTATION BY GROUPS REQUESTING FUNDING
Dick Stanley and Dr. Schumacher appeared before the Council
to request funding for West Hennepin Human Services. They
are asking for $3,067.
A representative for Hopkins Senior outreach/Senior
Communi tv Services appeared to request funding for their
programs which deal with the frail elderly. Senior Outreach
requested $9,080 for 1988. Representatives of Senior
Outreach were asked to meet with the City Manager before the
next meeting to discuss their operation in the city.

Doug Erickson representing Hennepin West Intervention
appeared to request funding for their program which deals
with domestic assault cases.
Irene Stronzer representing a Senior Citizens Group read a
statement supporting renovation of the Hopkins Community
Center.
The City Manager explained that he proposed an expenditure
of $65,000 for renovation of the Community Center in the
1988 budget, and plans to use Community Development Grant
money to finish the improvements to the community Center in
the next three years.
The Senior Citizens Group also requested additional
secretarial help at the Community Center.
III. DISCUSSION - JOINT CITY/JAYCEE/RASPBERRY PROJECT

The Hopkins Jaycees and the Raspberry Festival commi ttee
have indicated that they have funds that must be committed
to a community project before January 1, 1988. City staff
presented a list of proj ects which might be sui table for
joint funding.
Representatives of the Jaycees were in attendance, but no
one from the Raspberry Festival Committee was present. A
brief discussion was held and will be discussed again at a
future meeting.
IV. REVIEW 1988 BUDGET

Council and staff reviewed the proposed budget for 1988.
There will be a budget hearing on September 22nd at 7 p.m.
