1987-583 L I CITY OF HOPKINS Hennepin County, Minnesota ORDINANCE 87-583 AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING ISSUANCE OF CITATIONS BY CITY PERSONNEL THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HOPKINS DOES ORDAIN: section 1. Except as otherwise provided by Statute, only a peace officer and part time peace officer may ask a person receiving a citation to give written promise to appear in Court or take the person into custody as permitted by Minnesota Statute 629.34 (1986). section 2. City employees responsible for performing the duties required by the following positions may issue citations in lieu of arrest or continued detention for violations of the Hopkins City Code: J a) b) c) d) e) f) g) h) i) j) k) 1) m) n) Peace Officer and Part time peace officer Reserve Officer Community Service Officer Building Inspector Weed Inspectors Zoning Administrator Sanitation Officer Fire Chief Fire Inspector Fire Marshal Parking Enforcement Officer Housing Inspector Mechanical Inspector Abandonment/Junk Car Inspector Section 2 Preservation of Statutory and Common Law Rights. -- The provisions of this ordinance will not limit or impair the statutory or common law right of the employees holding the positions enumerated in section 1 to make citizen arrests or issue citations for violations of state laws and municipal ordinance. Section 3 Savings Clause. If any provision of this ordinance should be adjudged void or of no effect for any reason whatsoever, such decision shall not effect the validity of any of the other portions of the ordinance. Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its publication. . .
