1987-065 '0 '0 o CITY OF HOPKINS Hennepin County, Minnesota Resolution No. 87-65 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF UNITED WAYS' SALUTE TO SMALL BUSINESS WHEREAS, the United Way of Minneapolis Area currently provides funding to nearly 390 programs in 107 agencies, many located in and serving suburban communities. For example, in the Hopkins area agencies such as Vail Place and the Sojourner Shelter provide programs ranging from vocational training and job placement to a program at a battered women's shelter designed to reduce the impact of family violence on children through counseling, support group services, education and advocacy; and WHEREAS, the efforts of thousands of community volunteers enable the United Way to maintain fundraising and administrative costs under nine cents to a dollar; and WHEREAS, in 1986 funds are being distributed to quality programs that reach more people in suburban communities. The United Way works with county planning boards and private planning groups to identify gaps in services in a continuing effort to meet the comprehensive needs of people in the six county service area; BE IT RESOL VED tha t the hereby support United Wednesday, September 17, encourage local business in this event.
